The Weekend Vacation – Part 8, Final Thoughts
The weekend vacation turned out to be quite okay. The one thing I learnt is that it is the company that matters. If I had been alone, I might have been pretty bored. I also wish that we could have stayed for a bit longer.
The way back was pretty the same as the first day. Then boarded a matatu to Mombasa. At the ferry, this time the entrance was divided into women and children vs men section.
The ferry ride was just as usual. The cool breeze and one last view of the ocean.
Once we got to Mombasa, we looked for a place to eat as we had not taken anything yet. We ordered some ice cream as we waited. The service was so slow that we all had the mind to just walk out. We waited for an hour to get the ice cream and the burgers we had asked for. I wonder how long it would have taken for a complete meal.
After the meal, we called for a taxi to take us to the terminus. One of the reasons we decided to take a taxi was that we had no idea where to get the buses that go there. An attempt to ask a guy only had us more confused.
We got to the terminus one hour early. The entry process was the same as before.
Upon arrival at the Nairobi terminus at exactly the time allocated, we boarded a train to Nairobi town.
After we got to town, we dropped off Stephanie at her stage to pick a matatu to take her home. They dropped me off next after which I assume they boarded a matatu to their respective houses.
That was the end of the weekend vacation.
Points to take home
- If you are going to the beach buy sunscreen in advance so that you don’t end up with a cheap knockoff that does nothing to protect your skin.
- Carry some board games or cards on the train. It is fun if you have friends.
- Research for fun places to visit, go to those places, expect them to disappoint you, make other plans. As advised by Captain Cold AKA Leonard Snart.
- Do not settle for anything less. At the end of the day, it is your money.
- Have FUN!! You Only Live Once.
Is a weekend vacation worth it? Yes definitely, it relieves stress and you don’t need to go too far. I hope you learn a thing or two from this series. If not, thank you for reading anyhow.
