Top 6 Amazing Things to do in Kigali, Rwanda
Kigali, Rwanda is an amazing city. It is one of the cleanest and safest African cities, and I would even go ahead and say the world. I love it there and it has become like a second home to me, thanks to the great friends I have made there.
If you are ever in Kigali, here are some sites and places that you might want to check out.
1. Genocide Memorial
This is one of the places you shouldn’t miss in Kigali. It is also one of the places I was unable to vlog/blog about after I visited. It is heavy. Learning about the history of the genocide that took place in 1994. Watching videos of survivors talking about how their neighbours turned on them. How they watched their family die in front of them. All those feelings that come over you are intense. On the other side, it is an important lesson. How Rwandans came together to heal and move on from it. Knowing they can’t erase history but they can work hard every day to never repeat it. There are no words to explain this place, this paragraph feels off but please go and experience the place for yourself.
2. Fazenda Senga
My inner child is always ready to go. Fazenda Senga, located on top of mt Kigali, is the best place to let her out. They have a variety of activities: Quad Bikes, Horse riding, Zip-lining, archery, Bungee jumping, etc. All of these come at a price, not too expensive and their prices are listed on their website here. My favourite thing though is free to do: Trampolining. My friends and I were like little kids on that thing. I miss those moments. the other thing about this place is that when you have paid for activities, you can carry your own food and have a picnic or lunch with friends and family. Or if you’d prefer, you can order something from their vast menu.
3. Gahanga Cricket Stadium
The Cricket stadium is a cricket ground that hosts a variety of cricket games. If you are a cricket fan this is definitely a must-visit. However, cricket isn’t the only attraction here. Aside from the beautiful oval-themed building, there is a nice restaurant that is perfect for drinks and a meal with friends and general relaxation.
4. Tour the City on a Motorbike
Whether you hire your own or hop on one of the numerous ones in the city, this is one of the fastest ways to see as many of the city’s clean streets as possible.
5. Nyamirambo
Nyamirambo is a mixed residential and commercial district in Kigali. You’ll often find men sitting around drinking and eating together. It has one of the best and cheapest fruit salad shops I’ve been to.
6. Ethiopian Restaurant
If you want to try something different then head over to Habesha for an Ethiopian dinner and tell me what you think.
